We have never been to the Independence Day parade – so this time, we woke up early – and drove to the Parliament building – where the parade and procession is. My sister, Pravina was involved in the parade, but we didn’t manage to meet her because of the crowd.
It was a different experience – instead of sleeping in on a public holiday, we chose to live up to the spirit of Merdeka. Despite the political idiosyncrasies, deep down I truly feel proud and blessed to be a Malaysian. I feel proud and grateful for our multilingual skills, and tolerance for diversities despite occasional squabbles. It’s endearing to see people of all races come to celebrate Merdeka Day at the Parliament. There is no place which boasts the richness in culture and heritage like Malaysia. Home is where the heart is.
