Stay at the Majestic Hotel, Melaka

The Majestic Hotel Malacca - YTL's best signature boutique hotel. We stayed here the night before our registration of marriage on 07.07.09. It was a surprise from me for Alfred - and boy, he was really smitten with the interior of the hotel. The facade of the hotel reflects the original serene mansion dating back to the 1920s whilst a new building has been created, mirroring the original architecture, to house 54 spacious rooms and suites.

The design integrates old with new, modern with historic, ensuring that the total experience is one that is authentic, honoring the past while bringing every modern convenience to bear.

We love the interior of the suite, with its teakwood furniture and fittings - the fourposter bed decorated in a mixture of rich silks and cool cottons - very colonial and majestic. The service was excellent as well.

It was a pure coincidence - our room number - 707 - the date of our registration date :)

Our Registration Pics - 7/7/09

Our registration day at Maju Junction, KL. This will be our official marriage date - 7.7.09. We chose this date so that we'll have an easier recollection of the date for all our wedding anniversaries to come :)

Post-Wedding Celebrations

One of the scenes of our post-wedding celebrations at my grandpa's place - a day after my sister's wedding - everyone is joyful and thankful that everything went well, with God's grace. 2 weddings, week after week. And of course what better way to celebrate than to 'rotate' some cash around in a good-humored-gambling-session with my uncle as the humorous-cum-sneaky banker, hehe. And not to forget my maternal uncle's scrumptious mutton curry - thumbs up! The house was filled with lots of laughter and joy on that day- with all the relatives (including relatives who came all the way from India) gathering under one roof to celebrate two joyous occasions.

Wedding Eve at my aunt's place

On the eve of my wedding, my family and I went over to my aunt's house in Cheras. Chin Lay and my student, Koon Yew followed us in the car. My aunts and cousins had a pleasant surprise for us - they took the time and effort to decorate the house and even the kolam was custom-made with our initials on it :) So sweet of them - am truly blessed to have such a wonderful extended family :)

Shortly after, Ai Lin joined us as well - the house was filled with laughter and joy. My aunt and cousins from Seri Kembangan dropped by as well. Had great fun with my close buddies and family - a gathering that will be cherished for years to come.

Nallunggu ceremony and Mehendi night

Nallunngu ceremony is a pre-wedding ceremony (usually done 2-3 days before the wedding) to ward off evil and to bless the bride and the groom. This ceremony takes place separately in the bride's and the groom's house (the bride and the groom are usually not allowed to meet 2 weeks before the wedding). After the Nallunggu ceremony is done, the bride and the groom are not allowed to leave the house (this is to prevent any mishaps).

I was so happy that Chin Lay came.

Usually during the Nallunggu night, there will be Mehendi (henna) night for the bride. Mehendi has great significance in all Eastern wedding traditions, and no wedding is complete without the decoration of the bride’s hands and feet - in many cultures on both the front and back of the hands right up to the elbow, and on the bottom half of the legs. The mehendi night is something like a hen night in the West, with all the bride’s female friends and relatives getting together to celebrate.

Had a great time that night. It was fun-filled with family and friends - with lots of banter, laughter and joy! That's why I love the traditional Indian wedding - it gives an avenue for family and friends to celebrate with the bride/groom - more of a personal party before the big day.

My wedding saree

My wedding saree that we both seletected together - I love the color and it's quite comfortable to wear - not too stiff and starchy.

Our Speech

Our speech for the wedding dinner - that never got delivered - our guests were so busy mingling with each other that we've decided to cancel our speech and proceed to the children's performance. Since we've prepared the speech, we might as well say it to the cyber-world.

My speech:
Today would not have gone nearly so well without the generous help of so many people – and whilst my husband has already taken care of the ‘thank yous’, I would like to single out a few of you for my own praise.

Thank you to both my parents for all their love, support and guidance throughout my life. Given their spirit, generosity and kind-heartedness, I’ve always looked up to them. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for your encouragement. You have shown me the love and commitment involved in a marriage. I didn’t settle for anything less than true love because of your example. I knew what to look for and I waited for it … and waited, and waited and found the right person.

I would like to thank my husband’s parents, for their continuous support in the lead up to the wedding. My sincere wish is that together Alfred and I can build a home that is as welcoming and as full of love and happiness as theirs is. Their care and guidance over the years has had a very positive influence over Alfred and their very best qualities have rubbed off on him. They raised him so he’d grow up to be a perfect husband. As long as he keeps saying ‘Yes dear’ we'll have a wonderful marriage.

I’d like to make a special mention of Sharon, my friend who introduced us to each other. And to Chin Lay, my childhood friend whose friendship has been a source of strength to me throughout the years. I would like to thank Devan for the wonderful song he sang for us – which happens to be our favorite song. And special thanks to all my siblings, aunties, uncles, relatives, and friends for spicing up our lives.

After five years together it means a lot to be standing here as Alfred’s wife. I’m so glad to be married to Alfred; caring, talented, modest, charming – I can see why he picked me. When we first started going out together I was attracted by his ambition, drive and determination. He is understanding and kind, forgiving and patient, humorous and most of all he is a good listener. Alfred brings out the good in me, he makes me laugh and he makes me enjoy each and every moment of life just by being a part of mine. They say that you don't marry someone you can live with – you marry the person who you cannot live without. This is certainly true with Alfred, I look forward to our amazing journey together and growing old and grey with him at my side. This might sound like a cliché, but you truly did make me the happiest girl in the world when you asked me to marry you, and I can honestly say that I’m proud to be standing here now as Mrs Alfred. I know that life won’t always be a bed of roses, but I can promise you now that, whatever it tries to throw at us, I’ll always be there by your side, as your wife and your best friend.

Finally, let me end as I began, by thanking you all once again for coming tonight and for sharing this magical day with us. I can honestly say that today would not have been the same if we had not been in the company of our dear friends and family. Thank you.

Alfred's speech:
I’d like to sincerely thank everyone present here. Your presence is so important to both of us. Without your best wishes and blessings our marriage wouldn’t be complete. Thanks again.

I would like to thank my parents. I want you to know how much I love you and how much I really appreciate not only the sacrifices you made but all the times you supported me in what were sometimes not the smartest decisions I made(laugh) but gave me the opportunity to grow. I can’t begin to tell you what you both mean to me, and how glad I am you are here to share this wonderful day with me.

I would like to thank Geeta’s parents. Thank you most of all for the wonderful, and beautiful daughter that you raised, she is truly a gift. I also want to thank you for your kind words, and for allowing me to become a part of your family.

I’d like to say thanks to Geeta, my lovely wife, from the bottom of my heart. She is the most wonderful girl I have ever met. In fact, she, as a woman, is as amazing as you could ever think of. I’m not saying it as she is my bride today but anybody who knows her would agree. I heard someone saying that marriage is like a gamble, you never know what’s in store for you. But all I can say is, if marriage is a lottery, I have hit the jackpot. Can’t describe it better. Thank you sayang for saying “Yes”. You have made me so special. You made me feel like a winner. This is the happiest day of my life . . . no wait . . . this isn’t, because tomorrow will be happier and day after tomorrow even happier than that. This is just the beginning of a happy journey where every passing day is happier than the preceding day. To my wife, 'Grow old along with me, The best is yet to be.'

Thank you again for being here this weekend to share in our wedding with us. We appreciate all of the love and support we've received from you. It means the world to us and will never be forgotten. We hope everyone has a wonderful time this weekend.

We are Married!

We are married! Today was our wedding dinner - and I am awake at 3 in the morning because of the little booze that I had - definitely not wired to drink ;) We had great fun - finally - celebrations for 3 weeks in a row - 5th July our traditional wedding, 11th July my sister's church wedding and dinner, and 18th July our wedding dinner. And now I am able to heave a sigh of relief that everything went on smoothly and now we can sit back and chill out. We spent a great deal of our time planning for our wedding and dinner - it's high time for us to be back doing other things :) All in all we had great celebrations - lots of laughter, joy and dancing tonight - even with my saree and 3 1/2-inch-heels.

Thanks to all our family and friends who had been a great support. Thanks to Sharon for introducing us to each other - I am so thankful to have met Alfred - to share this amazing journey with.

Wedding Cards

I've just finished distributing the wedding cards to my friends and colleagues. Despite it being a lengthy process, it's indeed fun to catch-up with friends and relatives whom I have not met for quite some time - distributing wedding cards gives an avenue to meet up and catch up on old stories.

As for my parents' side, they are still distributing the cards for the wedding dinner - poor Mom, I see her running around sending out invites, having little time for herself. After our wedding, she definitely deserves a holiday and a little pampering!

Wedding Preparations

Basically, we are trying to take it easy with our wedding preparations. There are a few more things to finalise. We love our wedding card design - simple and cute - that's what everyone said :) And that reminds me to keep aside one copy for ourselves. Will upload our wedding card design soon.

Looking forward for the wedding dinner for some unwinding and fun - I am encouraging my friends to come for the dinner - so that they don't miss out the fun! I've arranged some programs for the dinner and keeping my fingers crossed that everything will turn out great!

The Week Ahead

Students have just finished their final exam paper - and I have started marking -about 227 scripts to mark - and my eyes are already going bonkers from reading all types of handwriting. Without paying much attention to grammar and sentence construction (after all, this is a Finance paper), as long as I understand what the student is trying to convey on the script, I give marks accordingly - after all, I was also once a student - so I must empathize what the students are going through - of course without forgoing the quality as much as I could.

And the wedding preps are going on full-swing now with the cards ready to be distributed - that will take up a huge portion of our ever-so-precious-time. Today we basically spent the whole day shopping for door gifts and other miscellaneous items. Having prepared the checklist and going by it is a HUGE HELP - a tremendous stress-reliever, I must say. Being so used to forgetting things, spending some time on the checklist was definitely worth it.

Wedding Preps

Last week we were busy running around sorting out stuffs for the wedding - not much time left - another 6 weeks to go - and so much things to do! I made a checklist of things to do for the wedding - and it comes in really handy - of course the checklist needs to be continuously updated along the way. Looking at the checklist, there's obviously so much yet to be done.

Last Saturday, we collected the wedding invites from Neptune Press, Brickfields. We bumped into my sister, Tasha and her fiance Devan - they are in the midst of finalizing their wedding invites. It is going to be a double celebration for our family - my sister's wedding and my wedding is only 1 week apart :) Hers will be a church wedding and mine will be the Hindu wedding. So, it's gonna be lots of fun. And I will be the bridesmaid for my sister's wedding, yohoooo :)

Last week, finally bought the wedding saree and gave the blouse to the tailor. Went saree shopping with Mr. Alf, so he was my only commentator - it was quite funny seeing him commenting on the technicalities of saree. The reason that it took us quite a long time to finalize on the saree is that I was doubting whether I can rely on his judgement regarding whether the saree is THE ONE for me. But, finally, I had to rely on his opinion - because I kinda liked the saree as well.

Yesterday, we printed the RSVP cards - so that's settled. We have yet to finalize the decor - the quotation that we got cost us a bomb - around RM 13k - I wonder if that's the amount people spend for a half-day event decor which will be all taken down within 5 hours. Now, we are in the predicament of how to get a decent decor with a decent price. We are also looking for videographer for the wedding. Caterers - yet to finalize the menu selection for the wedding.

A busy week

Last week, we were running around finalising the card, buying saree, ironing out some details and panicking at the fast-approaching day. There are still tons of things to do - and we are trying to have fun along the way with the preparations and stuffs. And since Mr. Alf is not 'enlightened' with the rituals in a Hindu wedding, I have to 'enlighten' him with whatever limited knowledge that I have. Thank God magazines are there to salvage us. Now, I am writing the entire rituals - and learning along the way.

Caterer and menu - yet to finalise. Decor - planning for a meeting some time end of this week. Door gift - pending.

This week is a long week for me as well - with final year project presentation, an overdued research paper and assignment marking.

Wedding Planning

We've got 2 months more to our wedding - and honestly, we've not been doing much for the past 8 months ever since he was diagnosed. After his last treatment, we've been dilly-dallying, much to our parents' dismal. We've been busy doing other things and up until now we've not got seriously into the wedding-planning mood - I think it's high time we did - haha, what can be worse than a disastrous wedding.

Things we've done last year:
- Booked both venues for wedding and dinner
- Booked make-up artist
That's about it. And past 2 weeks, we've started the ball rolling - started on the wedding card planning - and we've discussed with the printing press people - and have yet to finalise for print - which we expect to do by next week.
Urgent to-do:
- Caterers (wedding + dinner)
- Decor
With 2 months in our hands, I am trying to be positive on the whole process. Sometimes, tension can rise with so many things to be done in such short time - hope everything turns out great. Now, I'm gearing up my mood for the planning of our wedding - wish me luck!

A month later

The reason of my sudden dissapearance from the blogsphere for 1 month - lots of things happened and I was busy running around. Looks like our wedding will be postponed to sometime next year - he has to undergo a few treatments and surgery for a lump near his ribcage. Right now, prayers and faith help us get through this difficult period- and I must say it brings us even closer now than ever and we realised how much we mean to each other. I love you sayang with all my heart and I pray that you get well soon - remember we've got the Mount Kinabalu waiting for us - and lots of fun in store; and our life together :)

I am Engaged!

I am so engaged! To a wonderful man, Alfred. The engagement function went great! Everything went on smoothly and it turned out beyond my expectation - thank God! All the efforts taken in planning the engagement was worth it; and the pictures will be the token of memory which we will cherish for the rest of our lives together. Thank you to all our family and friends for lighting up our special day.

A great weekend

I had a great weekend; shopping and planning for the wedding is exciting when you realise that everything starts falling in place. We went for shopping at the Indian street in Klang on Saturday for some sarees and 'jippas'; Alfred was patiently commenting as I doned the sarees - and when I saw his face lit-up when I tried one of the sarees for the dinner, I immediately knew that this is the saree for me :) There were simply just too many choices - when overwhelmed with so many choices, it's so difficult to decide.

On Sunday, we met up with Grace, my ex-school mate to discuss on the photography for our big day. It was great meeting up with her after so long. We were happy with the portfolio that she showed us and we have the 'feel' that she is the one we were looking for to capture our precious moments on stills - we were very impressed with her creativity and ideas and the fresh angles that she can offer. I feel it's gonna be great as this is her first experience photographing traditional Indian wedding and it's gonna be great working with her.

We also went to meet Mr & Mrs. Selvam to discuss the deco for the wedding hall; we manage to get some idea on the theme for our wedding; and later went to do booking for the make-up artist for the wedding. I had a great time making all these preparations with Alfred; it's a beginning of a wonderful journey. I pray that with the love of the Almighty, all things and everyone are filled with joy, happiness, and love.

The Shopping

Yesterday, my family and I went to Klang to shop for the engagement and wedding. When 4 women go for shopping, you can imagine how long it took. As for me, it didn't take me long before I settled for my wedding saree (damn fast decision, okay) - not bad of a record for a fickle-minded person like me. I just told myself - if I like it from the core of my heart - I'll choose that. I found few nice ones which I like. Whereas my sisters took ages to choose, haha; I think we went to almost 10 shops or more. Finally, they bought something. It was a good and tiring journey :)

An Announcement

I have an announcement to make :D I am getting married at the end of this year; hehe - it took me a while to process and digest the fact; now with all the 'jitters' settled in, I am really looking forward for our big day :)

End of this month, on 31st Aug (yeah, the National day), I will be engaged to Alfred Subra Kereshanan - the man who has been very patient with me and who has been there for me throughout my ups and downs. I have to thank my dear friend, Sharon for introducing him to me. Ever since I've known him, life has taken on a new turn and brought about greater hopes and dreams and a greater meaning.

I've just begun with all the preparations for the engagement - didn't realise time flew that fast. Now, I've got a whole bunch of things to work on. Yesterday, Chin Lay and I went to Jusco to get a gift for him; I prepared the guest list (partially) yesterday and managed to call a few of my good friends to invite them for the engagement party. This weekend is gonna be a busy one but I am looking forward...
