Rajinder weds Charan

One of Alfred's close buddies, Rajinder is getting married this Sunday. We were looking forward for his wedding day - which will be our first time attending a Punjabi wedding.

Punjabi wedding is very colorful and merry with a 3-consecutive-day-celebration. The joy of a Punjabi wedding begins with the Sangeet and Mehendi ceremony from where the real fun and frolic starts. A scented powder consisting of barley flour, turmeric and mustard oil, is smeared to the bride and the groom, which is followed by an auspicious bath 2 days before the wedding day.

On Friday evening, we went for the Sangeet-Di-Raat- an evening filled with singing and dancing by the ladies - totally happening! Saturday is the Mehendi (henna) night for the bride where the bride's hands and feet will be decorated with henna designs. The actual wedding ceremony is this Sunday morning followed by a dinner reception in the evening.

These are the photos taken during the Sangeet-Di-Raat.
This is not the bride and the groom - it's just a play put up by the bride's and the groom's relatives - the role of the groom is played by a girl dressed as a man.
Another 'couple' dressed for the drama :)

And us...
